Our most popular driveway gravels are 5/8″ minus and 1¼" minus. These are usually the best choices for people who are refreshing existing driveways. Try 1¼" minus if you have heavy traffic or large vehicles. Use 5/8″ minus for smaller vehicles and less traffic. Our smallest minus rock product, ¼" minus, is usually too fine to use on driveways.

Gravel used for this layer is typically 1/2 inch to 1 inch across -- the larger it is, the better the water flow and less chance of clogs and blockages. For a French drain without a perforated pipe, opt for even larger gravel, such as 1 1/2 inches across. Smaller gravel such as pea gravel would not allow sufficient water flow.
